2011 - Saint Nicholas

Probably the last icon this year. The photo isn't that good in quality terms but thank God i have a memory of it. My skill improved i think but the mistery remains, why does it get so dark after the varnish? The white looks so dark and durty that is my biggest mistake, and overall the face could've been a little more brighter.

You have nothing to apologize for! I imagine it must be extremely difficult to take a photo of this icon with the gold background. It seems the gold's reflective qualities would make photo taking quite a challenge. Your icons are really beautiful. Did you study with an iconographer to hone your skills?

No. I did not study this. It's just a hobby let's say. i really like painting icons and it's not just art, it transcends art. It's about the paintors feelings more (excuse my bad english). But exercise makes me better. My older icons aren't that great but in time perhaps i will paint them much better. Yes the golden sheet in the background makes the job more difficult. Ussualy i have a photographer that helps me, but on this ocasion i didn't so i had an ordinary camera.

You truly are blessed. I love icons and have read much about iconographers. Yes, creating the icon does seem to transcend art and takes everyone involved with the icon to another level of existence--a better one. Of course, I know nothing about creating icons, it's only what I have read, but the icons I have in my home bring such peace, warmth and beauty that my home would be a very empty, cold place without them. Thank you for sharing your icons with the world, and thank you for taking the time to talk with me about them.
